  • We live in the most peaceful time in human history. Wait, what? Seriously? That can't be right, there are more wars than ever! Well, no and they're killing fewer and fewer people, even though the world population is at an all-time high...and the numbers prove it! We explain how we came to this conclusion, and why war might... go away.

IMPORTANT: congo was established by leopold the douche, as the congo freestate, and was suposed to be a free trade sort of deal, he got it because none of the major powers wanted another major power to have it, and because he had played an active role in driving arab slavers out of central africa (though let's be honest, slavery and forced labour is just a difference of branding)

his congo freestate was a dystopia in which abuse was common, but the narative was not so much one of white against black, white elites were cruel one particular captain had heads decorating his flowerbeds, but most of the cruelty was done by black force publique soldiers against the congolese, you see more than 90% of the force publique was locally recruited, and their main duty was in maintaining a constant supplie of raw materials to the corporations that were active in congo, which were owned by a small royalist elite and the royal family itsself

in fact i am flemish, our people were second class in Belgium up until 1968, 8 years after congo gained independence.

today to many feel the need to parrot ideas of white oppression and white privilege, that it was white peoples fault, in reallity the grand majority of white people gained nothing from colonisation and in fact this was during the period in which children died in factories on a dayly basis, a time in which only French speakers could hold public positions including postman, a time in which trials and politics were only conducted in French, which caused several inocent people to not be able of defending themselves in cases and end up executed because they were not even aware of what charges were held against them……

no the blame should be put on the families that did extort the congolese people, as well as all the force publique members, the royal family still enjoys the spoils of their reign of terror.

but there is another thing, in the late 19th or early 20th century international anger and anger in Belgium caused Leopold to turn his colony over to the belgian government. from that moment on it was immediatly decided to seperate the treasuries, under the belgian governance congo became the jewel of africa, but this also caused a rise in african nationalism, especially since, despite the higher rate of comfort for the africans, europeans still lived in more luxury and owned most businesses, in the years leading up to 1960 there was debate about giving independence

reason did not win out, congo seemed to be so succesfull that it could take on anything, those calling for a gradual retreat out of congolese affairs, training a capable generation of administrators and politicians as they pulled out, were made out for being against the independance in general, so in 1960 it was declared, but Belgian interests did not die there

the cold war was raging, and congo was the supplier of uranium for the US, and Lumumba had been talking to the USSR, it is likely that being a socialist himself he was about to ally with the USSR, so Belgian secret service CIA and seperatists worked together, the pm was taken down and eventually killed, official reports state that it was due to seperatist rebels, in reality he was simply executed during transit, the seeds of the warzone were sown, combine lack of expertise with all of this, (also lumumba had openly insulted the royals, baldwin was not the saint he was made out to be I have no doubt about that) and congo fell into civil war, into authoritarian dystopian rule and so on, almost as soon as it gained independence

POINT, look at the ones doing the abuse, not the race of the abusers, and don't take public oppinion and public history for given fact, there was a lot more to it than meets the eye

@Nithion Well, I do not live in Russia. Or China. So what happens there doesn't affect me. Neither does affect you (I'm assuming you don't live in Russia or China). Russia and China have been dping this kind of "internet regulation" business for years, perhaps even decades. They have always had a solid internal political network for this kind of stuff since the times of Cold War. But it is unlikely that something of this level will ever happen, let's say, the United States. I would also include Europe, but I don't think they count anymore, lol. But luckily, I live in a (relatively) safe and non authoritarian country that although have many restrictions regarding economy, they don't hold any power towards the internet and it would take years of harsh effort so they can could manage to fully control our network. And that is if they ever manage to do so. The Internet here, unlike in Europe, is something so strong in our culture and everyday lives that if they took away our freedom, you can be sure there would be something like a civil war (okay, I'm exaggerating, but there would definitely be harsh active opposition). Also, I live in a US zone of influence, so f*ck the EU, hehe.

And I don't use Facebook or most social media anyways, so Zuckerberg's got nothing on me, haha. Only thing that worries me, though, is the massive and obvious censorship that has been occurring inside YouTube and Facebook. There's obviously something strange and suspicious going on and I'm damn sure the bots watching over us are not bugged... I believe YouTube itself is not the one or one of those behind this, but rather being controlled and blackmailed by someone else. Just remember the incident with Wall Street Journal in 2017. As for Facebook, I'm not sure whether it is being forced by someone else to do censorship aswell or if it willingly joined this conspirancy. But there are reports that even newly, independent crated social medias that are trying to provide an unregulated freedom of speech are also getting external pressure by someone up in the hierarchical chain to either restrict itself to the same set of rules to limit our freedom of speech as YouTube and Facebook or to completely shut down. Who are these people that are forcing all modern, independent internet media to practice this censorship and abide to the will of the big corporations? Nodoby knows for sure, and they won't tell us. But it's obvious that there is a group or groups of people behind this with political interests and maybe even in direct charge of political positions. And I am afraid of this, because while they cannot take away our food with cyberwarfare, they can pretty well take away our freedom of speech with it.

                                                        • Nithion

Felipe Correia Borges I see your point, but the Chinese and Russian governments actually control their nations internet. They literally make it impossible to look up certain topics without bypassing it entirely using the dark web. The average person doesn’t know how to even get on the dark web let alone know what it is. I dare you to google “child p***” and see what happens lmao. Also google search your full name and you’ll find more info than you’d like on yourself. It’s so easy to ruin someone’s life by stealing their identity

@Nithion But you're getting out of consideration that nowadays not everything depends on the government. Or at least _could_ possibly do so. The world's economy is getting more and more descentralized. They can't make harm to a nation by hacking the government if the government doesn't hold power over most of these important sectors of an economy. It's easy to f*ck with a centralized system if you hit the "heart" which the other parts depend upon, but it's hard to hack and neutralize every single computer in the world if they don't have any direct interdependence between eachother, hence why it's impossible to fight against online piracy, for example. You take down a source, and another one or ten will raise somewhere...

But still, I'm not sure how these things work, so I might actually have gotten something wrong or inaccurate, lol.

Still, the frequency of wars have reduced a lot. I'm not saying it doesn't axist anymore. Yes, of course it still exists and may actually never completely end, but compared to what it was centuries ago, it's surprisingly low. Back in those days, the whole world was at constant wars (not just WW1 and WW2). Now it's just Africa and Middle East. For now, at least... Because who knows? Maybe we are really just experimenting an anomaly and wars as they were before may actually make a comeback.
