Hey Snake Discovery! I have a question about the cocoblox. I recently purchased a baby female Florida kingsnake. She’s currently eating the larger size of pinkies and is doing very well. I have her in aspen bedding right now and most her enclosure once a day to keep humidity up. I’d like to change her to a substrate that she can still dig in that also retains some moisture. Do you think the coco blox would work well for this? Any advice helps, thanks! 😊

I’m sooooo glad you did this video. I had given up on that stuff because I broke it apart dry and it makes TONS of dust. I thought it was horrible. Next time I will wet it and let it expand. Then if I need to dry it a bit I can do that last. I am going to buy more thanks to your demo. Nice job.

I use aspen fibers OVER CocoBlox for my ball pythons. Humidity stays up, reduces the possibility of impactions, no scale rot.

I recently decided to experiment with coco fiber for gardening. I expanded it into a large bucket and it filled a large patio planter. I added fertilizer since it was straight fiber. So far it’s held up to the (wetter than average) hot South Dakota summer. It’s much finer than what you’re us, but there was a warning that it might contain non- organic materials as part of the processing. My peppers, cilantro, thyme, rosemary, and cantaloupes are happy. Isopods have moved in, as have some happy ants. My youngest teen claims to have seen a lizard in the pot that ran off when being watered. Specifically, I used Expert Gardiner Organics Expanding Soil. It’s supposed to be 100% sterile, ph neutral coconut coir, but has a not-for-organic-farming-in-California label. I bought it at the franchise that starts with the big W. I bought it because I could pick it up and put it in a cart, unlike the giant bags of non-organic soil which were too heavy.

Add three inches of water to the bottom of the tub, wait 10 minutes, flip the block, add another three inches of water, another 10 minute wait. Test the block to see how easily it comes apart at this point. If there is still a compressed dry center, add another three inches and wait. That should permit just enough water to be absorbed so the substrate is moist and loose but not sodden. It's very easy to get impatient with this and add way too much water then have to let it dry out a while before use.
