Quick story, back in the 70s, my father bought lifters for his Cadillac, paid a noticeably high price. Cross referenced the part numbers and came back as the same as Chevrolet. He went back to the supplier and..... long story shorter, got the lifters completely free.

The reason why your f1 pump had failed is because of your accumulator not holding pressure resulting the pump to run all the time. The pump should cycle only once per 3 minutes. If it cycles less than 3, means your accumulator has failed.

My question is: how long will the cheap parts last. there's a good reason why the pump had a different part number. the electrical motor its self. might be setup for a lower flow rate. a short lesson in electric motors. it's about the winding, brushes and magnets. here's how it is. some dc motor have more winding on the rotor producing a lower rpm and higher torque. and other dc motors have fewer windings on the rotor producing more rpms and lower torque. so where they look the same. they can be setup completely different for the application it's being used for.

It's pretty interesting actually, I'm a British guy married to an American and my wife owns a 2012 Passat. I have found it significantly cheaper to order OEM parts for that car on the European market like eBay UK etc. For example a simple Bowden cable for the door latch actuator here was going for around $39, but I got it shipped from Latvia on eBay for $14 BRAND NEW OEM. Worked a treat.

As for different part numbers, same part that is really common in my experience working on cars in Europe. Just find out who is the sister car manufacturer or who owns who and try searching the part for THAT brand. For instance VW parts tend to work in Audi's and Skoda's and Seats and vice versa.

THAT would have been the ultimate low-budget solution - original part, as good as new, and at a great price. For all we know (and certainly based on the sound of it in your video), it might only need new bearings to actually run.

Very true re parts parallel, but looking the same is just the beginning. It's a simple 2 wire hook up so is it fixed supply voltage or variable?
Run the vehicle on rollers or stands until faults, test supply voltage and ground. Lost or still there? Temp sensors?
Is replacement motor rpm and load identical?
Is the replacement relay a good brand so rating and internal workings are reliable and rated correctly?
These are the questions we trades people have to ask before replacing with non O/E, or if they fail or meltdown we are left carrying the cost.
And we are expected to not be parts fitters but technicians.

I think you should have bought an original Magneti Marelli selespeed pump from Italy like the one I found for $210 on eBay ( 163753307541) rather than that dubious replica part purchased from an English distributor or perhaps your local FCA dealer because multiple Fiats still use it they also always recommend to replace the related relay which is something you already figured out Bravo!~

Hi Sam, I have an Alfa Romeo 156 which I think came with this same transmission, although it's called selespeed. The noise is the same when I open the door of the car. I think it was the first production car to come with it.

In Europe, car parts shops have equivalency catalogs. Magnetti Mareli has one which tells which cars get equiped with which of their parts. I'm sure that if you talk with US importer for Magnetti Marelli they would have it.

Anyway, thank you for the video on this, I'm sure it will be come useful in the future.
