most of the "reviewers" on youtube are also "content creators"... but most people here simply are "content consumers" or gamer.... adobe, blender, r15, r20 benchmark really means nothing for "content consumers" or gamers..... so why are reviewers so "self-obsessed" with their own needs? we don't make content... and simply don't give a damn about cpu benchmark that self-centered on content creation performance....

      Hi Paul,
You might want to do another set of benchmarks for the new AMD CPUs, AMD just released another Bios fix update.

Iam trying to choose between 8700k or 3700x to pair with a rtx 2070. My main concern is gaming on 1080p at 144hz. Any recommendations?

Someone made a good point: AMD architecture is going to drive all of the next-generation consoles. Microsoft worked closely with AMD for the new Xbox.

YouTubers just measure frame rates. They never take into account what percentage of total processing power a processor uses. This is a much more accurate measure of gaming smoothness than pure frame rates.

A YouTube commenter wrote: “I went from a heavily oc'ed (i5) 2500k to a Ryzen 2600 and the difference is pretty unbelievable in both gaming and outside of gaming.”

Another: "I upgraded to a 1700 from a (i7 6core, 12 thread) 5820k. Used both of them at 1440p with a GTX 1080, there is only 1 difference between the two CPU's: The 1700 loses 1-2 fps on the average and maximum, but gains 10-12 on the minimums. No joke my 5820k, before that my 3930K (i7 6core, 12 thread) and before THAT my 4790K and even my Xeon 1230v3 all had issues with microstutter here and there. It actually felt like I was playing at a higher framerate on my 1700. And before you ask, the only difference between each of those systems was the mobo and CPU. The ram stayed the same."

"A friend of mine just got a Ryzen 1700X (8-core 16-thread) computer. He wanted me to see it so I came over. I tried it and it seemed faster than my computer, but I was not overly impressed. He noticed my disappointment and pushed me away from the computer. He said "Watch this"! He opened 5 tabs in his web browser and opened a 4k you-tube video in each tab except the last where he opened an 8K video! He opened 3 1080p videos in VLC player (each separate instances) and one more VLC video playing 4k video. Finally he ran a full malware-bytes and anti-virus scan. The cpu never went above 58 degrees celcius in temperature and cpu utilization went 52%-72%. He let me try the computer while all this activity was simultaneously going on and it was still faster than my computer (older Intel -i5). I was so impressed that I promised him I would buy my own Ryzen computer before the end of the year!"

For those who don't have an earlier Ryzen to update the BIOS with try where AMD send you a processor to update the BIOS. shows which motherboards to get for the Ryzen 3000 series.

A new Ryzen user wrote: “make sure windows 10 allocates enough space for virtual memory because my computer was stuttering for a while”. (I think they mean the page file/swap file. It really means they didn't do so with their old processor.)

@Philosophical Mind there will probably be some "premium" boards that will have massive heatsinks that replace the fan, but right now I don't see many. Although I haven't really looked because this platform does not much interest me.

I truly did expect amd to wipe the floor with Intel in all aspects. That is not the case. But you wouldn't know it based on the products' reception and headlines from all the major YouTubers.

@Philosophical Mind  yeah, everyone who watches these videos primarily plays games. So again, another amd failure.

As for "tiny fans", read up on how amd's inferior platform require Northbridge fans. Another amd failure.

                      Philosophical Mind  2 days back

@hikeskool it dominates only by 10% in games, a difference you wont notice, but you will notice the 40% in productivity :)
what do you mean by tiny fans?

                      hikeskool  3 days back

@Philosophical Mind you would think amd would actually at least attempt to be superior in all aspects, but no. Another amd failure. At least in this round of benchmarks, Intel still dominates gaming.

Speaking of "cooking stove" (no idea what you think you meant by that), enjoy the mandatory tiny fans on the Northbridge of all these new motherboards. Yet another amd failure.

3900x is cool and all, but you have to give the 9900k credit for have less threads and less cores and still hold it's own like this against the 3900x.

                    • Jeffrey Photonboy
                      Jeffrey Photonboy  4 days back

Um, it's holding it's own only in applications that don't use all the threads the R9-3900x has. It's also worth noting that various software improvements are likely to close that gap over the next couple years. That includes Windows scheduling and using more Ryzen-optimized compilers for newer code... I'm frankly more impressed with the R7-3700x having the same core/thread count and being ALMOST as good on average but at a much lower cost (especially since you don't need to add CPU cooler cost).

I still wonder what will be like no 2x8 but 4x8GB? What will the performance and clock memory of 3600 look like for 4 dice?
I have read such information and I want to verify it.
Ryzen 3000 processors support RAM memory clocked up to DDR-3200. This corresponds to the fastest timing adopted so far by the JEDEC consortium, which includes all major memory and processor manufacturers, including AMD and Intel. AMD guarantees that the processor can work with such a speed memory:
                                                                    - DDR-3200 - if 2 memory modules are installed,
                                                                    - DDR-2933 - if 4 single-sided memory modules have been installed,
                                                                    - DDR-2666 - if 4 double-sided memory modules are installed.
I want to buy 4x 3600 and if it slows me down to 3200 it will be fine, but below... :\
